As anticipation for Lydell Jackson’s children’s book debut reaches deafening levels, he was kind enough to take out the time to provide us with the answers to some important questions that pertain to his first work, Pop Pop’s Garden.
GP: First and foremost, tell us a little bit about yourself Lydell.
Lydell I am a North Carolina Native son, the grandchild of sharecroppers in the south and the child of civil rights era parents. That says a lot about who I am and where I come from. Then I’m an Artist/Designer, father and grandfather. I’ve lived a great life and it keeps getting better. I enjoy peoples and cultures of the world. I’m a very spiritual man. I am a very passionate man about life, living and creativity. I’m always searching for ways to share my gift of creativity with others and ways to explore that creativity.
GP: Now that we have learned about Lydell the individual, could you give us a brief synopsis of Pop Pop’s Garden?
Lydell: Pop-Pop’s Garden is my first attempt at sharing my creativity as an illustrator and knowledge of God’s word with Parents and children who are looking for a children’s book that does more that just tell a simple entertaining story....
Synopsis
Pop-Pop’s Garden is designed to help your child develop a greater appreciation for nature, family, friends and GOD. Pop-Pop’s Garden contains wonderfully, vibrant illustrations that will capture your child’s attention as you read the contemporary story of a grandfather’s love for his first-born grandchild. It also shares insight on GOD’s word that will make for interesting conversation between you and your child as he (or she) grows older. By using the scriptural references in the book, you can engage your child in thinking about his (or her) own relationship to GOD, family, friends and the wonderful world of creation all around.
It’s a simple story with powerful lessons.
